What is Workers' Compensation?

​Almost all businesses in America that have employees need to handle the issue of workers' compensation. Most states in the country require companies and employers to purchase an insurance policy for staff commission. It will cover and address statutory obligations to their workers who are made ill or harmed because of workplace exposures. 
What is Workers' Compensation?
Workers' compensation is mandated by the government that pays and shoulders monetary benefits to employees and workers who become disabled or hurt during their employment. This type of insurance offers workers compensation for disabilities and other injuries as a result of their job. 

Types of Workers' Comp Benefits

1. Medical Coverage 
Most injured workers who file their worker's comp claims receive medical coverage. It covers the cost of treatments for any occupational injury or illnesses. This coverage includes charges for: 
  • Doctor's visits

  • Diagnostic tests
  • Durable medical equipment such as wheelchairs and crutches
  • Physical therapy. 

2. Disability 
Disability benefits replace portions of wages an employee has lost while he or she is disabled to an injury caused by work. Each disability is classified into these four categories: 
  • Temporary total: When an employee is completely disabled by their injury and won't work for a short while, they get a temporary total compensation. For example, an employee injures his back and won't attend and perform any work for five weeks. He will return to full duties after a five-week disability. 
  • Temporary partial: If the injury partially disables the worker. 
  • Permanent total: It covers permanent injuries without remedies to employees. Consequently, the employee cannot earn a future salary and income by performing his job before the injury. 
  • Permanent partial: If the worker acquired a permanent injury like hearing loss, that would prevent him from earning as much income before his injury. 

3. Rehabilitation 
Most states in America give out vocational rehabilitation to employees who cannot go back to their old workplace because of an on-the-job injury. They also provide psychological treatments if they have suffered any work-related mental injury. 

4. Death 
If a worker dies because of work, death benefits must be paid to the employee's spouse, children, and dependents. It covers burial costs.
