After finding your new home, the next step is to protect it by buying homeowners' insurance. If your personal or auto insurance also covers home insurance, then you may extend your coverage, but if you want a separate policy for your home, take note of the following things that most homeowners may have missed when it comes to getting home insurance. What Is Included In A Home Insurance Policy
Do you know that your home is not the only thing that’s part of your policy? Also included are your driveway, sheds, fences, and structures inside your property. If you want to know about the coverage or additional coverage of your policy, consult your homeowner's insurance agent. Your Personal Property Is Covered Personal property is the things you own, and your homeowner's insurance can cover your personal property, whether it's at home or anywhere. If your laptop gets stolen from inside your car, you'll be covered. However, there may be limits to this coverage when it comes to valuable items like jewelry, antiques, artwork, and other valuable items. Additional Living Expenses Are Covered If your home suddenly becomes uninhabitable because of a fire, theft, or other conditions, this falls under a clause known as "loss of use," and your insurer may be able to help you pay for a suitable place to live. The insurance company may even cover living expenses like food, parking, laundry, housekeeping, etc. What Is Your Personal Liability Liability is the thing that you are responsible for. It is the reason why you’re getting your home or property insured in the first place. This condition is your fault, or anyone included in your policy causes any damage to other people's property; your insurance company should have these covered. And to be clear, these are entirely unintentional situations. What’s Not Covered By Homeowners Insurance Your policy does not cover earthquakes and flooding. These may be covered by a separate policy that you must also purchase if you want to protect your property further. Other things that are not included in your policy are sewer backups, mold, pool accidents, wear and tear, jewelry, and fine art and construction work damage. I found it very helpful when you described how we could know what an insurance policy actually covers. My wife and I just bought a house, and we're so ready to move into it. We'd like to get a home insurance plan for our house before we live on it, so we think right now it's the perfect time to find an agent to guide us through. Thank you for the advice on home insurance policies and what to ask when consulting with an agent.
